Covering your Floor – Rustic Style

No cabin, lodge, or other rustic environment is complete without a charming area rug. That’s just a fact of life. In every lodge movie scene, there is always a rug in front of the fireplace.  There’s a reason for that. It creates the feeling of country comfort as soon as you set your sights on the room. It is part of the relaxing, cushy and cozy feeling of the room. All of those warm, fuzzy feelings can come from a few rustic area rugs.

If you have a large open room in your retreat, you need to consider a good-sized lodge area rug to cover a substantial portion of the space. If you have the furniture forming a circle around the center, or even a withdrawn semi-circle surrounding the fireplace, a round lodge rug may be the perfect solution to define this space in the room. These lodge rugs can be very attractive and have the double use of offering a soft warm area on the floor for those cold winter evenings.

For the most part rustic rugs are hardy, which is good news if you’ve ever watched the foot traffic in a cabin. Most log cabin area rugs see plenty of foot traffic, not to mention kids playing on them and roughing them up.

When making your decision on what cabin rug to choose for your retreat, one way to know the rug will fit into the room is to make sure that the rug matches the main wall color in the room. From there, you can have fun selecting any specific patterns or colorful designs that will add more of an accent to your space.

If you don’t have a wide-open area in the cabin for a rug, there are smaller options that will still allow you to add some of the cozy charm to the space. Consider cabin throw rugs or other rustic accent rugs. While they don’t take up as much space, these rugs can add a splash of color to the environment, helping to complete the feeling you have worked so hard to create.
